Police Department

On behalf of the men and women of the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department we would like to welcome you to the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department webpage. The mission of the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department is to provide a safe environment to all of our citizens, visitors and businesses. We greatly encourage any and all community involvement and assistance. We are dedicated and committed to the Community Policing philosophy that emphasizes proactive problem solving, crime prevention and community partnerships. It is through these community partnerships that we will continue to grow our relationships with the community and always ensure that Bristol Bay Borough is a great place to live, work and play.

The Bristol Bay Borough Police Department was formed in 1965 and when fully staffed has a total of 12 members. The Chief of Police, 4 full time police officers, 1 seasonal police officers, 6 dispatchers / corrections officers with 2 of them also having duties within DMV. The boroughs year around population is approximately 900. The population increases for several months over the summer to approximately 15,000 due to the commercial fishing, sport fishing and eco-tourism industrie. Katmai National Park is only a 15 minute float plane ride from King Salmon Alaska.

The Bristol Bay Borough Police Department police the communities of King Salmon, Naknek and South Naknek, a total area of 888 square miles. It is not abnormal for officers to fly or take a boat to calls for service within the borough due to the remoteness. Officers work 8 hour shifts, predominantly by themselves. All officers are issued all equipment with the exception of boots, including a take home marked patrol vehicle. The Bristol Bay Borough Police officers will take the initial call for service, canvass the area, conduct all crime scene investigations, finger print, collect evidence , photograph, interview and follow up investigations. We do not have a CID, our officers work the calls all the way from start to finish.

We again would like to thank you on behalf of the men and women of the Bristol Bay Borough Police Department for your continued support. Without our great community we would not exist.
